Asperger’s Syndrome, The Second Amendment, and The Value of Life.

I went on The Dana Show during the second hour of the radio show, which is now broadcast on TheBlazeTv, to talk about Asperger’s Syndrome.  Once again, Asperger’s has been thrust into the national limelight under the worst circumstances.  I’m not even going to link to any of the myriad of news articles all screaming “The killer had Asperger’s! OMG! He wasn’t taking his medication!” As I explained to Dana, it’s all a load of bull-puckey.

I have Asperger’s Syndrome. Asperger’s Syndrome is NOT a mental illness, it is a neurological difference.  There is no medication for Asperger’s Syndrome.  Let me repeat that.  There is NO medication for Asperger’s Syndrome. Asperger’s Syndrome is often co-morbid with other issues that would be medicated, but Asperger’s Syndrome has no cure.

(Check out my “Not weird, just wired differently” line at Cafe Press)

Asperger’s Syndrome is a form of high-functioning autism.  Technically, after the latest updates to the DSM-5, Asperger’s is no longer an official diagnoses, but I digress. Typically, what separates an Aspie from a higher-function autistic person is their language skills.  Aspies can talk, quite well. Aspies tend to be very literal, and have to learn sarcasm.  They don’t generally look people in the eyes, often because the amount of emotion and input in the eyes is overwhelming.  Aspies also don’t pick up on social cues, things like body language and facial expressions, which makes them generally outcasts or targets for bullies.  Some Aspies pace, or flap their hands, or clap, scream, or whatever when overly emotional or over stimulated.  For me personally, I close my eyes to talk to shut out other stimuli so I can concentrate on what I’m saying.  I also tend to use headphones and music to block out the world when I’m overwhelmed or need to shut out distractions so I can stay on task.

I also struggle with depression. Depression is just one of several issues that can coincide with Asperger’s Syndrome.  I am well aware that Depression lies. In my case, I’m medicated.  My “Happy Pills” help me to keep my emotions level.  I’m blessed to have an amazing support system.  My husband picks up the slack around the house when I’m struggling to keep myself together. He’s always there to talk me through the worst of it.  A few weeks ago, I hit a rough patch where I just had too many feels.  He let me rant, rave, and cry.  My mom is amazing, and has talked me through some tough spots, and reminds me that I need to take care of the one that needs me most at the moments, and sometimes, that’s me.  My family has always been ready to pitch in and lend a hand when I need them, just as I do for them when they need help.

When I see people declaring that we need restrict the rights of the “mentally ill”, I get concerned. Ya’ll are talking about me. As I told Dana, I believe the real conversation needs to be the value of life. America no longer values life. As long as we continue to treat life as disposable, these types of tragic events will continue.

Illegal Islamic Terrorist Immigrant makes bail & is set free in Arizona

Two members of the Harakat-ul-Jihad-i-Islami Bangladesh terror group were captured last year illegally crossing into the United States from Mexico. One of the Islamic radicals posted bail and then went missing.

Great work, Homeland Security!

Has Senator Dick Durbin ever even read the Constitution?

Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (Ill.) said in a congressional hearing Tuesday that a young person who is an illegal alien in the United States today may someday become president.

“When I look around this room, I see America’s future, our doctors, our teachers, our nurses, our engineers, our scientists, our soldiers, our congressmen, our senators, and maybe our president,” Durbin said immediately after having asked all young persons in the room to stand if they were currently undocumented aliens who would be eligible to become citizens if the DREAM Act were passed.

Dude.  I’m pretty sure no one in that group is going to be our future President.  Senators & Representatives, maybe – IF, and that’s a big IF, they get legal. But President… Um… No Dude.  The Constitution, in Article 2, Section 1, says that a person must be 35, and a natural born citizen (read ’em and weep Durbin) – and really, that is heart of the whole Birther thing — what defines natural born citizen.  Whatever that definition…  I’m pretty sure none of those DREAM ACTer’s will qualify.

President AutoPen will sign Patriot Act Extension. Wait — Is that even legal?

Congress officially passed an extension of the Patriot Act tonight, just hours before key provisions of the national security law were due to lapse at midnight.President Obama, currently on an overseas trip, is not at the White House to sign the bill, a requirement for the measure to become law. So the White House will use an autopen –- a machine that replicates Obama’s signature -– to sign the extension, according to White House spokesman Nick Shapiro. (Source)

As Doug Powers over at MichelleMalkin.com points out:

What a great excuse to offer the inevitable criticism he’ll get, much of it from his own base: “But I didn’t sign it — Robobama did.”

A Must Read: Sleepwalking Through History

In by-gone days, admirals and generals nearly revolted when their primary purpose – national security – was threatened. Today, US military leadership has largely buckled to their purview being used as an instrument of social change. Pentagon officials have acquiesced almost without a whimper to repeal of Don’t-Ask-Don’t-Tell. Sensitivity training and reduced physical requirements for women are standard. But the role of the military, to be brutally honest, is to smash and kill things, not right society’s wrongs. When the shooting starts, only might is right, and combat warriors who will be sorely needed are exiting because of the change.

An air force wing commander recently quit because higher ups wanted to change the fighting culture he’d fostered. He wrote, “I am tired of fighter pilots suffering at the hands of…pencil pushing…ladder climbing opportunists…who think they are leaders just because the Air Force is currently more interested in feelings and sexual orientation than fighting. At this rate we may lose the next real war.”

It’s a perilous path we’re on and our leaders don’t seem to know it.

The TSA can kiss my A-Double Snakes.

This video disturbs me on so many levels.

My vision turned red the first time I saw this little 3 yr old girl kicking at the TSA agents while screaming, “Don’t touch me!”  The Mama Grizzly in me wanted to jump through the screen back in time and stand between that baby girl and that TSA agent.  I wanted to lay some smack down on someone on that child’s behalf.

My next instinct was to scream at the parents.  How could they? How could that father just stand by, running his cell phone cam when his child was in such obvious distress? Yea, there was definitely a story there, but the man should be a father first, reporter second – not the other way around. Arrgghh!!  And the mom…  Maybe my vision is skewed here, being that I’m a mom with a couple of kids on the Autism spectrum, but really?  I can kind of see where she tries to make the best of a bad situation.  She tries to pick up the child and comfort her while the screener keeps grabbing at her. But seriously? I wouldn’t have let them touch my child in the first place.  I would raise holy hell.  They would be dragging my butt to jail, because if some laid a hand on my child, there would be punches thrown.

But my anger and frustration with the parents melted away as I listened to the interview with the TSA Supervisor.  I was absolutely horrified to hear the TSA Supervisor say that they need to “turn it into a game.”  Are you kidding?  TSA is not the best at background checks, even hiring illegals, felons, and kid-touchers.

Indeed, back in March it emerged that TSA worker Sean Shanahan, who was employed at Boston Logan International Airport to pat down passengers, had been charged with multiple child sex crimes targeting an underage girl.” —Prison Planet

So their bright idea is to make these searches – which, by the way, means touching in ways that would get most people sent to prison – into games? WTF? I want to know what this guy is smoking that he thinks it’s ok for anyone to lay hands on a child in such a manner.  Oh, but the alternative is to go through an x-ray machine without the benefit of that lead-lined skirt they give you at the hospital to protect your bits and pieces from radiation.  Oh yea. Lets do that. /facepalm.

My outrage at TSA is only magnified after reading accounts like this – a young mother prevented from making sure her autistic toddler doesn’t wander off – the comments here, and listening to accounts like this one:

After all this testimony, I am more pissed then ever at our ineffective, inept TSA, and the Government, that not only continues to allow this rampant violation of our Constitutional 4th Amendment Rights, but tries to tell us it’s all for our good and we should just go along with the public molestation.  Really, Janet Napolitano, really?  I mean, when the government is in the business of terrorizing children and molesting law abiding citizens who wish to make use of a private enterprise, I think you could almost say that the Terrorists are winning this round. Geez.

Quick! Somebody call the Wah-mbulance!

“We keep hearing that we can’t really do anything about these illegal aliens — Arizona should just deal with it,” said John J. Bouma, Arizona’s lead attorney. “Well, the status quo is simply unacceptable.”

via Hearing on Arizona immigration law begins.

So… let me get this straight…  The Feds tell Arizona “You deal with it! We don’t wanna.”  Then, when Arizona passes a piece of legislation that basically tells the police in the state to enforce federal law and only if they have stopped a person for a crime, and there is reasonable suspicion…  The Feds get their panties in a knot and whine, “but but but!!!  You can’t do that!”

Dude. Read the whole article.  Both pages. It is sooo worth it.

Steve King has a set of big brass ones.

Steve King, Republican from Iowa said on the floor of the House last Thursday night:

“it seems the President has an inclination to engage in these kinds of things. When he had an Irish cop and a black professor, who did he side with? He jumped to a conclusion without having heard the facts, and he ended up having to have a beer summit.”

When it comes to immigration laws, King said, “We need a mission at the top. The President of the United States has got to articulate a mission. Instead, he is playing race bait games to undermine the law enforcement in the State of Arizona and across the country, and undermining the efforts of our Border Patrol, ICE, and customs border protection.”

Go read the whole thing.  Jake Tapper even has embedded video of Iowa Rep. Steve King just nailing the Prez on this Arizona law = racial discrimination thing.
