Nostalgia maybe?

What is it about these old Christmas shows that just grabs my heart? I’m not talking about all the maudlin depressing crap being shown on network TV as “Holiday Specials” these days… I don’t even mean the ones like “It’s A Wonderful Life” which, while it’s a good movie, I just don’t really care for it, or “White Christmas” which I absolutely love…
The Christmas specials I’m talking about are my family favorites. Christmas Eve on Sesame Street, Muppet Family Christmas, Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas. They are all such happy, fun shows. I’m not sure why I’m tearing up watching them with my kids today. Although the sight of Mr. Hooper in Sesame Street brings fond memories of my childhood when the Street was the show the to watch. Personally, I feel it has never been the same show without Hooper. I really miss him.
And now I get to watch my own children enjoy the shows I loved as a child. When they ask to watch a Christmas special, they don’t ask for the Blue’s Clues episodes, or even the Muppet Christmas Carol… They absolutely love the three show I mentioned earlier.
And! I have the orignal of all three shows, not the cut up versions available in stores today. My darling hubby found a way to preserve them on DVD from my mom’s worn out video tapes from the 80’s. *S* And no, I won’t reveal the secret, or make copies, so please don’t ask. But it’s oh so fun to pop in the DVD and watch them one after the other.
My DH thinks that it’s cuz I’m remincising about the years I spent watching these with my baby sisters, and now I’m watching them with my own kids… I’m sure that’s part of it…
“And if that isn’t a true blue Miracle, I don’t what one is!”

Keep Christmas With You (All Through The Year)

Words by David Axlerod
Music by Sam Pottle
from “Christmas Eve on Sesame Street”

When Christmas time is over
and presents put away, don’t be sad
There’ll be so much to treasure
about this Christmas day
and the fun we’ve had
So many happy feelings
to celebrate with you
And, oh, the good times
hurry by so fast,
But even when it’s over
there’s something you can do
to make Christmas last Keep Christmas with you
All through the year,
When Christmas is over,
You can keep it near.
Think of this Christmas day
When Christmas is far away.

Keep Christmas with you
All through the year,
When Christmas is over,
Save some Christmas cheer.
These precious moments,
Hold them very dear
And keep Christmas with you
All through the year.

Christmas means the spirit of giving
Peace and joy to you,
The goodness of loving,
The gladness of living;
These are Christmas too.

So, keep Christmas with you
All through the year,
When Christmas is over,
Save some Christmas cheer.
These precious moments,
Hold them very dear
And keep Christmas with you
All through the year.
