Modern Day Deployment

I want to see his face
I settle for an email

I want his touch
I settle for txt

I want to hear his voice
I settle for a computer screen

I want him
I settle for a screen name.

He wants me
I keep my laptop open

He wants to hear my voice
I email every night

He wants my touch
I respond to txt as soon as possible

He wants to see my face, and our children.
I send photos as often as possible.

I am so proud of him

He is so thankful for me.

Together, we are unbreakable.

BTW – Yes, I am unbelievably blessed.  I do not know how military families survived in the days before email.  I also know that I am lucky, because even today, not every military person deployed has access to internet or phone. I don’t know how their families manage. The poem is written based on my own experiences, blessed as they are.
